Waiting List Procedures

Portland Tillamook Preschool maintains a waiting list of families who have applied but for whom we do not have space.

In March of each year, we hold an Open House, accept applications and then hold a lottery for the spaces we have for the following school year.  In a typical year, there are 100 applications for fewer than 10 openings.

Our classes are mixed age and gender.  Our board is directed to maintain balances between the ages and genders.  We assign children to categories based on their “birth year” and gender (a girl might be in the 2002 F category, for example).

When we have an opening, we look to the category that will best help us balance the class, and our membership coordinator begins calling waiting list members in that category in the order of their lottery draw. We call one family at a time.

So that we can be fair to families further down the waiting list, we ask that you respond within one business day to our call. You can call us and let us know:

  • that you accept the place in the school;
  • that you need another 24 hours to decide;
  • that you do not wish to accept the place but want to remain on the waiting list;
  • that you wish to be removed from the waiting list.

If you miss our call and deadline and call us as soon as possible, you will be reinstated to your place on the waiting list.  If we do not hear anything from you within a reasonable time, you will be removed from the list.
