Portland Tillamook Preschool

A Parent-Organized Preschool

Portland Tillamook Preschool is a private, non-profit, parent-organized preschool in Portland, Oregon. The school was founded by a group of parents in 1973. It offers a play-based, multi-age environment for children ages three (or almost three) through five.

Parental involvement is the foundation of our school’s success, and it helps make the preschool experience rewarding for both children and their families. We all work together, with the teacher, to make the school a supportive and challenging place for our children to grow.

Our parents administer the school through an elected board. Our teacher, Anette Horten, began teaching for us in 2002. She strongly believes in Tillamook's philosophy of providing an anti-bias environment and a play-based curriculum.

Location

The preschool is located in rooms and grounds rented from Laurelhurst Presbyterian Church at 935 NE 33rd St. (at Pacific St). We have no religious affiliation to this or any other church.

PCPO Affiliation

Our school is a member of Parent Child Preschools of Oregon, a non-profit community service organization. PCPO links preschools and their families in a supportive network. It sponsors a yearly parenting conference as well as providing ongoing guidance, preschool referrals, parent education, publications, group insurance, etc. A valuable resource for all parents of young children, PCPO can be reached at 503.293.6161 or on the web at lefh.net/pcpo/.
